*Ummmm ... 4/1/10 -

Ok, two things

1. WTF is going on with the avatars on DA???

and

2. just wanted to tell ya'll to check out this new site I found to waste time on lol but you can actually get free stuff for doing it.

Oh, and what's with the lama? I guess that was 3 things.

*Update - 2/22/10 -

This is the first chance I've had to check this account in over a year, so I apologize if you have emailed me or asked permission to draw/use a photo and got no response.  For future reference, you are welcome to draw/paint my photos, I only ask that you include a link back to the original if you post it here or anywhere else online.

As for using my photos as stock or just to REedit.... I really don't give permission for that.  I have put a lot of time and effort into my photos and would rather them not be altered.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to comment and feature my photos =)

*Update - 12/23/08 -

- I don't know what the HELL I'm doing... have I mentioned that -

It's been a while, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of my photography stuff.  We move in May and it has been pure CHAOS ever since.  I things are finally starting to calm down (hopefully) and I finally got a comfortable set up for my computer... which is still jacked up thanks to my husband trying to download Voltron videos to show the kids, but instead ended up downloaded thousands upon thousands of viruses.  I've managed to get rid of most of it, but not all of it ... that I haven't gotten rid of I've figured out how to bypass with Firefox.  I know I can fix it, it's just such a hassle and, really, who has the time???? Not me!

Now it seems DA and many other of the sites I frequent have changed things around :[  I hate relearning stuff.  Don't they know I am a creature of habit?

Anyway, hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of each other :)

Thanks again to all of you who have been so kind and supportive :)

FAQ

3 min read
I decided to add this FAQ to my journal since I am not always around to answer questions and whatnot. I apologize for that, but life is crazy as usual for me! LOL  These are a lot of the same questions I get on many of my photos.  If you have a question for me you are best to either write it here or send me a note.  It is too hard for me to keep up with every comment.  I wish I had more time to do so.

1.  I have 2 BOYS!  I know, my older son is SOOOO pretty that he looks like a girl, but he's not.  This would also explain why in some photos you see blue eyes and in some you see brown.  My older son, Hayden, has blue eyes and my younger son, Marreck, has brown eyes.

2. Yes, both of my children are mixed.  Their father is Jamaican.

3. I do my own makeup.  Many of my photos are self-portraits because I don't have many "models" to work with at the moment.  I also do the makeup in the photos of the other people shown in my gallery.  If you are interested, you can check out my website at:www.geocities.com/makeupbymela…

4.  My eyebrows have a naturally high arch to them, but I do tweeze them to get them how I want them and I also use an eyebrow pencil to add definition.

5.  I use Paint Shop Pro V.8 to edit my photos. (I am currently trying to learn how to use PS CS2) The moonlight filter is a plug-in I got from, you can find it here:</u>www.xero-graphics.co.uk/

6.  My son has gorgeously bright blue eyes.  He has MY color eyes, but mine don't stand out the way his do.  I use layers when editing my photos, usually adding softness and things of that nature.  When I do add a new layer I usually use the eraser tool to erase over the eyes to kep them nice and crystal clear.  This helps them to stand out.  Especially when I use the moonlight filter since it tends to darken the rest of the photo.

7. The camera I started out using was a Canon Power Shot A80 [4MP] but I broke it in the summer of 05.  My more recent shots were taken with my mom's Sony Cybershot DSC-F828 which is an 8MP.  I haven't been able to afford a new camera and haven't had access to my mom's since the both of us have been so busy.  God-willing all of that will change soon and I will have more to share!

Update - As of 9/19/06 I am the proud new owner of a Canon EOS 30D DSLR!

8.  I mostly use MAC pigments for the makeup in my photos.  I actually sell MOST of the makeup I use in my ebay store, if you care to check it out:stores.ebay.com/Makeup-by-Mela…
I also recently got my MAC pro card and take orders for friends and family.  If you are interested in MAC pro products, check out this link: blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus…

I do NOT care!

2 min read
Due to a lot of comments I have been recieving lately I just wanted to let everyone know that I post my IMAGES for review and critique.

It is not me, my kids, my family, my husband or my style choices that are up for critique.  I am looking for feedback on the image itself.

-I do not care if you don't like the fact that my son's hair is in dread locks.
-I do not care if you don't like that fact that I use makeup to create characters in some of my images.
-I do not care if you don't like how I title some of my images.
-I do not care  if you think that my beliefs (Jesus) are dumb.

All of these things are irrelevent to the actual images being posted.  If you have some constructive criticism on the image itself, NO PROBLEM.  If you just want to make comments based on your personal preferences that really don't have anything do with the image posted, keep them to yourself.  If I wanted your opinion I would specifically ask for it within the description of the photo.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything else, but I am getting tired of the personal remarks being made, some of which are down-right insulting.

My photography is mine, it is my own style.  If you like it you like it if you don't you don't!  I have tons of family photos and snapshots that include my husband an do not include makeup.  What you see here are not my family snapshots, they are the product of how I express myself through makeup and photography to create my own images.

Thanks to all of you who have continued to be so kind and encouraging.  I really don't mean to sound harsh, but it seems every day I check my account only to find another personal remark being made rather than remarks being made about the actual photo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words!  I really... REALLY appreciate it!

Isn't it amazing how many new deviations are submitted daily on dA?
That the amount of people who are interested in dA increases daily?
And the fact that so many artists have found a platform to dicuss and present their work to others?

Without a doubt it's a big, interesting and versatile community.
But isn't it amazing to always see the same artists on the frontpage every single day concerning the fact that so many new deviations have been submitted?

We're all aware of that and believe that this has to change. It is already quite difficult for the "unknown" artists to promote their work and gain more attention.

Clearly, we do not intend to deny the skills of those great artists who enrich the community by sharing their magnificent work. But we do intend to enhance the platform in such a way that "unknown" artists might get a real chance to draw the public attention to their own pieces of work by promoting it on the front page of the community.

In our opinion we think it unjust to only have the chance to be represented on the front page if one has the luck of having many watchers.

We would like a better system which allows a deviation to be seen on the front page if, for example, it has 'only' reached about 40 favourites and about 200 views.

Take a look at the actual situation: You have uploaded an impressive piece or art that gets faved according to the number of your total views/watchers. Then, however, a more popular deviant uploads a more or less 'average' deviation and automatically reaches more than the double of your favourites/views in a mere moment.

A new structure of the frontpage could enhance the actual competition on dA, i.e. popular deviants wouldn't be able to best the "unknown" artists by posting a rather average deviation.

A reasonable alternative to present the "daily top favourites" on the front page would be a bigger amount of thumbs which would show the 40 best deviations of the day in a random order.

We think it's in everyone's interest to change the current situation and make dA a place where creating and sharing unique art plays a far bigger role than scrambling for new watchers.

1. I could live on pizza

2. Even though I don't believe in horoscopes, I am a full-on Gemeni and have multiple personality disorder.  You never know who you are going to get.

3. I am always surprised that other people actually LIKE my photos. Sometimes I wonder if people are just being nice.  LOL

4. I am a recovering internet-a-holic.  I used to spend nearly my every waking moment online.  We had a very small house and our computer was located centrally in the living room, which made it pretty easy to do just about anything while online.  Since we moved to a bigger place I'm not on nearly as much.

5.  I have a terrible habit of starting internet profiles and joining communities and then not keeping up with them..... friendster, myspace, ezboards, flick'r... the list goes on.

6. I am absolutely terrible at staying in touch with people in real life.  Aside from my family and my church family I have NO real friends! LOL  The sad part is that I really don't care too much.
